Black Rock Historic Boat Tour

Fayerweather Lighthouse

Two for one - Boat Cruise of of Historic Black Rock Harbor and Tour of Dundon House History Museum

Saturday June 25, 11 am

Tour a local museum in a historic seaport home, and then go on a boat cruise of historic Black Rock harbor on Saturday June 25 sponsored by the Black Rock Community Council’s (BRCC) History Committee.

Take a one-hour Tour of the Dundon House Museum starting at 11 am. This 1893 Queen Anne Victorian house was originally located on Fairfield Avenue. Moved to Captain’s Cove in 1991, it is now a small local museum. It includes exhibits on the maritime history of Black Rock harbor and its historic fisheries & oyster beds, the history of 2 local lighthouses and a collection of interesting items salvaged from nearby waters. Bruce Williams of Captain’s Cove will be on hand to answer questions.

Then go on a guided boat tour of historic Black Rock Harbor aboard the comfortable 40 ft. Navy launch, “Chief” narrated by Captain Bruce Williams of Captain’s Cove. View Black Rock Lighthouse on Fayerweather Island and Penfield Lighthouse. Enjoy scenic views of other Black Rock historic sites such as St. Mary’s By The Sea during this one-hour excursion on Black Rock Harbor.

Fee for combined museum and boat tour: $10 for BRCC members, $12 for non-members. Adults and teens. Pre-registration and pre-payment required. Proceeds go toward the purchase of historical signs for the Black Rock Historical District sponsored by the BRCC History Committee which promotes Black Rock history.

Bruce Williams, the guide for both these tours, grew up working in the lobster and oyster fisheries on Long Island Sound. His family has worked for three generations on Black Rock harbor, and in 1981 started Captain’s Cove Seaport which they continue to operate today.

Rain date Sunday, June 26. To pre-register, contact Madeline at madelinejdennis@optonline.net or 203-296-9166.
