Fairfield County Homes for Sale: Preparing a Moving Checklist

Preparing a Moving Checklist

One of the services you can provide your clients is to provide them with a moving checklist that provides them with the phone numbers of the utilities that they need to shut off or transfer in their old home and the contact numbers for the utility companies they will be using in their new home (which depending upon where they are moving to, may require some research on your part).

I e-mail this list to my clients who have Internet access and I print it out and hand it to clients who don't use the Internet.  All my clients deeply appreciate it as it is personalized for them and shows that I am thinking ahead to try to make their lives a bit easier during a stressful time.

Here is a sample of a moving checklist for a move within the same town:

This is a good idea and helps organize a very hectic time where people can forget things.

I'm doing a step by step Getting Ready For Market checklist.

Everyone likes checklists.

Duane - Thanks.

Roberta - Be sure to customize it for each situation.  You don't want to include the gas company, if there are no gas connections

Rick - I think of it as concierge level service.

Ardell - I've hired a stager to go through a home and rattle off all the things that needed to be done to prepare the home for market, while I tagged behind and filled up page after page of notes.  I then converted that into a checklist.  It was a big hit with my client, although she hated seeing me as I would ask her how far along she was on the checklist every time I saw her.  Great idea!  I hope you write a post about this.

Yes! Very good, this is going beyond and above the expected customer service, you are very wise to take this seriously and creating this list. Lance

Lance - Thanks, it's sometimes the small, thoughtful things that make a big difference.

Gail:  GREAT list!  I have one already, but need to do a comparison and tweak mine--I've had it for awhile!

Gail:  As soon as we have an Executed Contract, I send the clients here:  http://www.debemaxwell.com/HomesAuthenticated.aspx?tabid=1974255

You can go to their site and upload it to your webpage as well or just send them directly to the Utility site.  It is VERY easy and the clients don't have to get on the phone at all!

Gail--great list and a very nice touch for your clients!  I've used something similar, and it has been very well received!  I had to laugh at the name you used for junk removal....

I'm MRS. Scott Brown!!  LOL!!!

Debe - I like sending my clients a customized moving list specific to their needs.  My broker's website provides a way to change utilities online as well, but all the utilities are not there and my e-mail provides just the utilities they need - no more and no less.

Kim - That's too funny!!!  Will your hubby clean out my garage?

Duane - Your checklist is a great addition.  Thank you for checking with me first before posting it.
