The Black Rock section of Bridgeport, Connecticut is undergoing rapid change as residents continue to migrate into cities from the suburbs, and from inland to the shoreline.  Black Rock is located in Fairfield County on the coastline and is an historic Colonial seaport.  It has a harbor, marina, yacht clubs, beaches, and a tidal estuary along with miles of sidewalks with sensational views of Long Island Sound and the Ash Creek Tidal Estuary.  The Ash Creek Tidal Estuary is an important migratory flyway for shorebirds.

Anticipation of the long awaited Black Rock Train Station (estimated completion 2010) has resulted in upscale development along Fairfield Avenue, the main thoroughfare and interest by developers in creating condominum and apartment complexes on the few remaining large lots.  However, the Black Rock Community is a close knit neighborhood which is well-organized and has developed a plan for its future, which is in this report.  Developers would do well to meet with Black Rock's community groups and gain input before proceeding forward as the community is able to organize on a moment's notice and has successfully blocked ill-suited developments in the past.

This is a diverse neighborhood with homes upwards of $4 million located in the St. Mary's-by-the-Sea section as well as entry-level housing and rentals.  This report provides data and statistics as well as plans for Black Rock's future.  Many long hours and discussions were involved among a diverse set of stakeholders to develop this well thought out plan.  If you have an interest in living or investing in Black Rock, you will want to read it.

Gail ~ It certainly looks like Black Rock has a great future ahead.  This is a great picture of what will take place in the future -- It looks like all the hours and hard work has paid off.

Joan - It was good to talk to you today.  It is an exciting time in our community.  Now we have to turn the plans into reality.

Boy it sure is nice there already, great town, now it appears it will be even better, and that is just fabulous. It is so great when communities come together with small business, economic development and citizens to really do it right! Lance

Lance - I've been here 30 years and I can't tell you how much things have changed.  We were urban pioneers and now the area is hot!
